The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is a 501(c) (3) non-profit public foundation with the mission to "provide books for local communities to prepare all Georgia preschool children for reading and learning success." The Ferst Foundation for Lamar County is our local chapter, also a 501(c) (3) non-profit public foundation. Lamar County children who are enrolled in the program received one book a month from birth to age 5. There are currently 69 counties that have a Ferst Foundation program including: Butts, Monroe, Coweta, Heard, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether and Upson. It costs $36 a year to sponsor one child. The sponsorship includes 12 books, a Ferst library card a monthly parent newsletter.
