Chairman
Jay Matthews
Jay was elected Chairman in November 2006 to his first term which began January 2007. He was born and raised in Lamar County and chose to remain here and raise his family. He is married to the former Elizabeth Stokes of Swainsboro, Georgia. They have two children, Jake and Anna, and attend First Baptist Church. He has been employed with GA Rural Water since 2001, serving public and private water and waste water systems in Georgia. Jay has been involved with the community for many years with the following groups:

District 1
Bennie Horton
Commissioner Bennie Horton was elected in July 2002 and began his first term on January 1, 2003. He is a native Lamar Countain who retired from Continental Tire after 40 years of distinguished service as a supervisor. During Commissioner Horton's tenure as commissioner, he as served as liaison for the Public Works, Building/Zoning, and Recreation Departments as well as Magistrate Court.
Commissioner Horton is the chairman of the local Democratic Party and serves on a multitude of various boards for the betterment of the community. He also spear headed the renaming of the newly constructed bypass to Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, where his efforts came to fruition in 2008.
Commissioner Horton serves his constituents by working diligently to create more jobs and make Lamar County the best place to live, work, and raise families in Georgia. His hobbies include music. Commissioner Horton graduated from Booker High School and Flint River Tech. He has taken courses at Gordon College and is a certified County Commissioner through the ACCG advanced program. His loving, devoted and supportive wife is Mrs Vivadon Wilcher-Horton.
District 2
Charles Glass
Charles Glass was elected 2nd District Commissioner in 2010 and took office 1 January, 2011. He is originally from Lamar County and returned for good in 2003 after retiring from Cisco Systems. Commissioner Glass has been very active as a volunteer in the community and his church in the past few years.
Commissioner Glass hopes to establish more deliberate citizen feedback mechanisms and involve more citizens in the discussion and decision making of county business. Commissioner Glass wants to work with the citizens to make sure Lamar County is the place we want to live and will still be what we want for our children and grandchildren. District 3
Jimmy Hearn
Jimmy was elected to office in November 2008 and began his first term January 1. 2009. He has lived in Lamar County is entire adult life and is married to Sara T. Hear. Jimmy and Sara have three children and eight grandchildren. They are long term members of Antioch Baptist Church and are both very active in the Church, with Jimmy serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board.

District 4
Nancy M. Thrash
Nancy was elected the 4th district Commissioner in July 2008 and began her first term January 1, 2009. Nancy is a private process server. She worked with Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and our State Senators during the Georgia General Assembly legislative session. Nancy and her husband, Jerome, attend Rock Spring Church where she volunteers in the Nursing Home Ministry.
