Poll Workers


  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be a current Lamar County Resident or adjoining county resident
  • Must be a minimum 16 years of age
  • Must have the ability to read/write/speak the English language, bilingual is helpful but not necessary
  • Must be able to work a full day at the polls, Election Days are approximately 14 hour days
  • Must not hold a current Public Office position
  • Is not a parent, spouse, child, brother, sister, father-in-law, mother-in law, son-in-law, daughter- in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law of a candidate whose name appears on the ballot in the precinct in which the poll worker will be assigned during a primary or election
  • Must not have ever been convicted of a felony
  • Basic computer skills are helpful

All Positions are required to attend training sessions and study the station instructions. It is recommended to meet with your precinct the Monday before Election Day to preset up the polling precinct.


  • Check Identification
  • Assist voters in filling out Voter Certificates, if necessary
  • Mark voters on Electors List
  • Write voter’s name on Numbered List of Voters
  • Create and issue Voter Access Cards
  • Direct voters to proper voting unit
  • Ensure voters return Voter Access Cards
  • Ensure voter verifies their ballot and submits their ballot into the scanner
  • Assist any position as needed. We are a team; we all work together to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all elections.
  • Assist with opening and closing of the polls
  • Disassemble voting units (must be able to lift at least 25 pounds)
  • Assist with paperwork as necessary

Pay rate:

The base pay rate for a poll worker on election day is $120 per election Minimum Hours: 6:00 A.M. – Closeout (after 7:00 P.M.)
